has been secret to a successful holiday for those who really need to be close to the nature, quiet, white sand and green sea beach. Koh Lanta(Lanta Island) recommend a visit between December until the end of March, to see the most beautiful white sand beach and emerald green sea.

Unlike Phuket, Koh Lanta is still under developed, the first 4 star resort, boutique style resort, Sri-Lanta just opened a few years ago and the newest first luxury boutique style resort, Pimalai resort, just opened last December, whereas Phuket have more than 50 of 4-5 star hotels and resorts, and tourists could reach by 4 flights daily and also served as international airport for flight from Europe, Australia and several Asian Cities, Krabi is served by 2 TG flights daily and international flight has just been luanched from Singapore by Silk Air, 3 flights a week.

Koh Lanta lies 63 kilometers southeast of Krabi at the southernmost end of Krabi. Lanta Yai(Big Lanta Island) is 22 kilometers from north to south. On the west lines the Andaman Sea; eastern coast is a rain fores. There are 8 beautiful beaches ranged from 100 Baht bamboo hut style resorts lie along the beach. Koh Lanta Yai cannot completed with Phi Phi Island's unique natural beauty; staggering seascape of limestone crags rising vertically from the sea, Koh Lanta Yai offers purer natural beauty, plenty of fine sandy beaches and a less commercial tourist spot, lived by only 20,000 Muslim fishermen. Communications is still under developing, GSM Advanced is the only available mobile connection at the island as of now. There are two popular resorts on Koh Lanta Yai; Sri-Lanta, a Balinese style resort, perfect for honeymooner at budget luxury resort, but unlimited natural beauty touch; romantic sunset, great Thai massage experience at the beach front sala, candle light dinner on the resort beach restaurant.

Sri-Lanta's cottages built up on the hill, that while it's well suited to young honey mooners, as we need to walk a little up to the hill to reach the cottage. The cottage style and design is rather exotic in Balinese, natural touch style. The bathroom is like in the old days to enjoy the moonlight while bathing, with ......singing as a natural music.

For those who wish to spend more money on closer to the beach and full range of luxury resort & spa, Pimalai, is the new and only first 5 star beach resort on Koh Lanta, opened December 2001.

Pimalai resort is perfect for those who seek for privacy and quiet escape but full range of facilities and services. Each superior pavilion will have 4 guest rooms, mainly on the hillside location. Beach front pavilion suites and Bay front deluxe rooms are rather popular as guests could enjoy panorama view of the beautiful sea and sunset view, especially at the pavilion suite, the decoration is rather homely style with private entrance, living area, with sundecks opening onto the bay and a miniature garden, equipped with an outdoor shower and a pretty tiny pound lying with lotus.

The two resorts may not be recommended for family with kids as they are still very few activities for kids.

At Koh Lanta, tourist could not expect night life as there are no night club, no cinemas, no shopping, no discos., only the sea and the peacefulness is the main attraction. There are two primary activities; scuba diving and snorkeling and could be arranged by local operator for a long tail boat; for a full day trip which cost about 2-3000 Bath for private charted or cheaper if shared with others. Recommended sites are Koh Muk, approx., 30 minutes boat ride, and the near by island to discover the secret wonders of the undersea world and coral reef. A must discover is a further 30 minutes ride to the Emerald Cave, in Trang area. Emerald Cave could be reached only by swimming toward darkness from the entrance of the cave where as boat is awaiting. The swimming to the Emerald Cave require a lot of your energy but the white sand beach inside the Cave is a worthwhile journeys and comparable to those of the Blue Grotto of the Capri of Italy. On the way back to Koh Lanta, it's recommended to experience a southern style Thai dish which extraordinary delicious at Koh Ngai Fantasy Resort, especially seafood menu which freshly caught from the sea, cooked in local style; hot and spicy to add some spice to your life.

     Emerald Cave(Tham Morakot)

The Amazing Emerald Cave(Tham Morakot), behind the sheer cliff of Koh Muk. Tourist has to wear life jackets and swim slowly through small cavity to the cave about 80 meters. However this cave is available to visit only at low tide.

     Inside the Emerrald Cave

Inside the Emerald Cave is beautiful as its name by the emerald water and white sand beach, surrounded by high cliff and covered by the blue sky. This is one of the wonderful natures, which cannot find anywhere in Thailand. It's a worth visiting while staying at Lanta Island, which takes about 1.30 hrs. speed boat ride.

Diving, snorkeling, kayaking, day-trips

Koh Lanta is a significant diving spot, plenty of local reefs, a lot more peaceful and more pistine than the ones round Phukhet and Phi Phi. The diving season runs from December to April, not recommended for the rest of the year as the seas are too rough for the boat ride and pretty rainy.

Koh Lanta's best diving sites are between Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi, including beautiful coral at Hin Bidah, where lived a lots of leopard sharks, tuna and barcuda West and south of Lanta is the Ko Ha island group which offers four different diving sites on each of its five islands, including steep drop off and caves.

Kayaking

The north coast of Koh Lanta Noi, near by Ban Rapu, is rich in mangroves and caves which makes it interest to explore by kayak. Kayaking outings can be arranged by various tour operators at Sala Dan.

Day trips

Koh Lanta's biggest in land attraction is the Tham Mai Kaew caves, located in the heart of the island and signpost from the west-coast road at Hat Klong Nin. There are myriad chambers here, some of which we can only just crawl into and they boast stalactites and interesting rock formations as well as a creepy cave pool and the inevitable bats. To explore the cave properly, we need to bring our own torch, and we need a local guide to act as caretakers and guides the tour. The tour program could also combine with Waterfall inland from Ao Klong Jaak, visiting the Cave and elephant ride, which cost less than 40 US$ per person/full day.

Getting to Koh Lanta Yai, Krabi, visitors need to fly an hour flight from Bangkok and then take approx. 1 hrs. car ride to Sala Dan Pier. The road to Koh Lanta Yai is still rugged, and considered inconvenient to reach the two resorts by car. The resorts provide speed boat to pick up their guests at Sala Dan Pier and take 30 minutes to both resort.
